KAJIAN GAYA BAHASA RETORIS DAN KIASAN PADA KUMPULAN CERPEN PILIHAN KOMPAS 2021 KELUARGA KUDUS
Abstract
This study aims to describe the use of rhetorical and figurative language styles in the 2021 Kompas selected short story collection, Keluarga Kudus. A descriptive-qualitative research method was employed, utilizing data in the form of words, expressions, or sentences sourced from the texts within the collection. Data were gathered using the "read-and-note" technique and subsequently analyzed descriptively. The results reveal a total of 133 instances of language styles, comprising 58 rhetorical and 75 figurative examples. The rhetorical styles identified include erotesis (16 instances), hyperbole (29 instances), and paradox (13 instances), with hyperbole being the most dominant rhetorical style used by the authors. Meanwhile, the figurative styles identified include simile (20 instances), metaphor (31 instances), and personification (24 instances), with metaphor emerging as the most dominant figurative style. Consequently, the findings indicate that figurative language styles were used more frequently than rhetorical language styles. The use of both types of language styles plays a role in reinforcing the expression of ideas and emotions, as well as enhancing the linguistic aesthetics employed by the authors to construct their stories.
