Abstract

In real-life communication, nonverbal communication is far more commonly used than
verbal communication. In speaking, nonverbal communication is almost always utilized.
The purpose of this study is to describe the forms of kinesthetic nonverbal communication
messages in the short film Cap Cip Top! by Ludy Oji Prastama and Wahyu Agung
Prasetyo, which consist of: (1) Facial messages, (2) Gestural messages, and (3) Postural
messages. This study used a qualitative approach and the researcher as the primary
instrument. The data and data sources in this study are in the form of dialogues that
describe the forms of kinesthetic nonverbal communication messages in the film. Data
collection techniques were done by repeatedly watching the film, identifying, and
classifying data containing kinesthetic nonverbal communication messages. Data analysis
was done by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results found
ten data that showed kinesthetic messages as follows. (1) There were three facial
messages in the form of surprise, wide-eyed anger, and staring up. (2) There were four
gestural messages in the form of pointing a finger at someone, simultaneous up-anddown finger movements, and thumbs up. (3) Postural messages. There were three
postural messages in the form of smiling, spying, and opening the palm of the hand. The
conclusion is that communication is carried out to realize human identity throughout life.
To achieve effectiveness in communication, attention can be paid to the three
communication elements, namely communicator, message, and communicate (the
person). If one of these elements cannot function well, communication will not function
well, will be ineffective, and will not produce efficient results.
